March of Dimes North Carolina Partners with Ames Walker in the distribution of 3,000+ face masks to local NICU Facilities during the COVID-19 Pandemic
MAY 6, 2020 — March of Dimes today launched a new program with Ames Walker, a company that supplies compression socks and hosiery, converted a sock line to manufacture masks. Ryan and Kaki Zell, owners of Ames Walker are partnering with March of Dimes to provide face masks to distribute to hospital partners in NC (Novant Health Care in Charlotte will receive the first shipment on May 8,2020) for parents who are leaving the hospital with a newborn. A mask will be donated for each fulfilled order. These non-medial grade masks will be given to families as they leave their local NICU with their new babies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was developed as a way for NC based Ames Walker to support new parents to comfortably leave the hospital. Ames Walker has committed to donating one facemask to March of Dimes for every order placed.
Current numbers:
-3,000 masks to be given away in our NC partner hospitals so far, and number will grow
-March of Dimes will work closely with Ames Walker to distribute the masks along with a note of hope for families and Kelly Glantz is working closely with internal teams to promote on social media, through local channels, and ensure that we share this opportunity broadly.

“Expecting mothers can’t pause pregnancy. The COVID-19 pandemic is putting a strain on the healthcare system, and at this time, the health risks to moms and babies remain mostly unknown, however they are the ones who depend on the health system for support from pregnancy through delivery,” shared Dr. Rahul Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical and Health Officer at March of Dimes. “There is an urgent need, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to support families with a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and ensure that moms-to-be have the latest health information to protect themselves and their infants.”
